WAN
A WAN (wide area network) provides data connectivity between customer sites, and also to the iHub network. A variety of different technologies can be used depending on the customer’s requirements for reliability and transmission speed. These include:
- Private circuits
- MPLS VPNs
- Broadband
Services can be configured using quality of service (QoS) parameters to enable simultaneous use by voice, video and data applications, eliminating the requirement for multiple networks.
Private Circuits
Private lines provide a reliable and cost effective way of connecting an office location to the iHub network for Hosted IP Telephony or IP Lines services.
Private circuits eliminate the cost of ISDN lines and can also be used for internet connectivity, thereby providing a convergent service, reducing costs compared to separate voice and internet connections. In addition private circuits can be provided with a service level agreement (SLA), increasing the uptime of the connection and providing rapid response in the unlikely event of a circuit failure.
Private circuits can be provided at speeds from 1Mb/s to 100Mb/s. For larger capacities Ethernet services are recommended, depending on location of the customer site.
MPLS
MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) is ideal for companies with multiple sites. MPLS speeds up network traffic flow by prioritising different types of data traffic (such as VoIP, video and internet). This results in a reduction in operational complexity and thereby produces significant cost savings.
MPLS enables large networks to be simplified, which in turn enhances the speed of delivery of all services. Coupled with Quality of Service (QoS) and traffic engineering, performance levels can be optimized to meet the needs of the most demanding business requirements.
For companies who are looking to connect multiple sites and mobile workers, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) can be a cost effective solution for providing secure, fast and reliable connections.
