SIP Trunks

SIP Trunks can be used to connect legacy PBXs, as well as IP PBXs, and provides a more cost effective way of routing outbound calls to the PSTN (public switched telephone network) than traditional CPS (carrier pre selection). 

iHub uses a variety of different IP network connections, such as DSL, MPLS VPNs and Ethernet, depending on the size and location of your site. For IP network connectivity iHub uses leading providers such as BT and Griffin.

But there’s more to SIP Trunks than just cost savings. Since inbound numbers can be ported to iHub, the features and functions of SIP Trunks enhance the deployment of Hosted IP Telephony and IP PBXs through control of inbound calls. Single dial plans SIP Trunks enable multiple locations to be integrated together, providing a single dial plan between sites and employees. Users can therefore access a single company directory and use features such as click to call to connect with any internet connected user with no resulting call charge.

Capacity flexibility BT voice lines (such as ISDN) are fixed in capacity and have long lead times if additional lines are required for telemarketing campaigns, new starters etc. In addition, contracts are normally 1-3 years requiring telecoms managers to overprovision in anticipation of uncertain future demand. With SIP Trunks, extra capacity can be added when required for short time periods, providing greater responsiveness and lower costs.

Geographic number flexibility When businesses move location, often their geographic number must remain within a certain exchange area, forcing adoption of new numbers and causing considerable disruption. With SIP Trunks, numbers can be retained and routed to any phone that has an IP or internet connection.
